As a professional bridal hair & makeup artist, I’ve rounded up the top 10 things you should know before your bridal trial.

The truth is that a bridal trial can often be a little nerve racking. You may not know what to expect. With so many do’s and don’t’s you’ve heard over the years, it can be hard to navigate what is myth or what applies to you.

One thing is for sure, a trial is called a trial for a reason. It’s a fantastic way for you and your HMUA to get to know each other! (HMUA = Hair and Makeup Artist) As well as get a clear understanding of what you are looking for. We want to ensure you are happy and look gorgeous for your wedding day.

Bridal Hair Accessories: In or Out?

Honestly… this is such a personal preference. I for one, LOVE bridal hair accessories, but it does depend on your hair style, dress, jewelry and overall wedding theme.

I think adding some hair jewelry could be a perfect touch to your bridal look. They can help solidify your overall vibe; beachy, bohemian, romantic, vintage, rustic, etc. So it’s important to consider your personal style, chosen hairstyle, overall vibe and color palette when choosing an accessory.

Now, let’s talk about scenarios where bridal hair accessories may not be suitable.

if your dress is very busy with beads, jewels, beaded belts, etc.
if your planning on wearing a statement necklace or larger statement earrings.
if the hairstyle you decide on is overly textured with braids and curls or maybe you have a lot of dramatic highlights.
It’s just not your style.

These are all scenarios that have enough going on. Adding bridal hair accessories may create a very overwhelming/busy look when your beautiful hairstyle itself was all you needed.
